Morristown High School Girl’s JV Basketball Team Defeats Morris Catholic 37-20 on Hoops for Hedda Day

MORRISTOWN, NJ – The first game of a rare, home playoff tripleheader featured the Morristown Colonials girl’s junior varsity team as they hosted Morris Catholic Crusaders on Saturday afternoon.

After a slow start to the game, in which the Colonials trailed 11-9 at the end of the first quarter, Morristown got hot. The next three quarters, they outscored the Crusaders 28-9 as they coasted to a victory.

Led by Kolby Lynch, who scored a game-high 12 points, Morristown advanced to the next round of the playoffs.

Morgan O’Neill added eight points, including two three-pointers and was the team’s second leading scorer.

Throughout the day’s three games, the Morristown High School athletics department raised money for Hedda Sivertsson, the Morris Township teenager suffering from a form of pediatric brain cancer who the community has rallied behind. From open half-court shots at half-time to proceeds through food and refreshment sales, Morristown raised hundreds for the young eighth grade student battling her second round of cancer.

“As a family, we’re trying to assist in whatever way we can,” said Morristown High School Director of Athletics Smitty Horton. “The goal is to do what we can to help the family cover the costs of any needs that they may have. When something like this happens, we come together and support in whatever way we can.”

The Colonials will host Parsippany Hills on Thursday, February 9 at 5:30 p.m
