“Morristown Medical Center is proud to celebrate and share these recognitions with our patients, families, communities, and medical staff because they are based on quality outcomes data—showing our commitment to clinical excellence, safety, and long-term, positive outcomes,” said Trish O’Keefe, PhD, RN, president of Morristown Medical Center. “As healthcare continues to change, and as we focus our efforts on offering complex state-of-the-art care, and wellness and prevention efforts in our communities, these data show clear evidence that when you do need a hospital, Morristown Medical Center is the right choice.”
These achievements are part of findings released today in the Healthgrades 2018 Report to the Nation. The new report demonstrates how clinical performance continues to differ dramatically among hospitals nationally, regionally and at the local level, and the impact that this variation may have on health outcomes.
“Consumers place high value on information about hospital quality and use it to evaluate their choices for care,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Healthgrades. “Hospitals that have achieved recognition for their quality outcomes prove their commitment to their patients and their community at large.”
About Healthgrades Methodology
For its analysis, Healthgrades evaluated approximately 45 million Medicare inpatient records for nearly 4,500 short-term acute care hospitals nationwide to assess hospital performance in 32 common conditions and procedures, and evaluated outcomes in appendectomy and bariatric surgery using all-payer data provided by 17 states.
Healthgrades recognizes a hospital’s quality achievements for cohort-specific performance, specialty area performance, and overall clinical quality. Individual procedure or condition cohorts are designated as 5-star (statistically significantly better than expected), 3-star (not statistically different from expected) and 1-star (statistically significantly worse than expected) outcomes.
