NEW JERSEY – Phase Three of the post-Thanksgiving storm is well underway. Models came together and are showing the storm to be a bit colder aloft than originally forecast. This means higher snow totals than first predicted and a later conclusion to the storm, now forecast to end near sunrise Tuesday morning.
Final accumulation totals are looking as follows:
South of I-195 and the extreme coastal areas: Freezing rain changing to snow in late morning, accumulations of one to three inches.
Between I-195 and I-78: Significant snow from Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning. Expect three to six inches in southern areas (Trenton and South Brunswick), four to eight inches in Middlesex and South Somerset counties.
Between I-78 and I-80: Significant snow throughout Monday into Tuesday mid-morning, six to 10 inches likely.
North of I-80 and areas north and west of I-287: Significant snow throughout Monday into Tuesday mid-Morning. Expect eight to 12 inches, possibly higher in high elevations; 12-18 inches in far northwest New Jersey.
Most schools have posted closings or early dismissals for Monday, and many will also be closed on Tuesday. Travel will be extremely treacherous throughout the day on Monday and into Tuesday. Use extreme caution when driving.
Please check your local TAPinto sites for further closings, postponements and business interruptions as this storm works its way through the region.
