TAPinto Travels Toys of the Year from the New York Toy Fair 2018

It’s a king sized trike for our king sized publisher.
Every boy should have their day.
Oh! He heard that. Next booth. We are off schedule.
A whimsical playhouse from Starry Castle is not yet available, but with its handcrafted feel and environmentally sensitive wood construction, it should be.
Mercedes. (Insert Tim Allen monkey yelp)
Land Rover (Insert more Tim Allen monkey yelp)
Just insert Tim Allen’s amazed monkey whooo!
A VW. Huh?!? Our publisher drives a Passat. It’s a respectable man’s luxury vehicle. Just say’n while he is still pay’n.

TAPintoTravels - The International Toy Fair of New York ended earlier this week, but we are not done telling you about all the cool new stuff coming out.

The fair was enormous with over a thousand toymakers.  However, we have selected a few toys that we believe our readers will most value and enjoy.  Today is our big reveal though.

Every year, the Toy Association honors a number of toys in key categories.  They call them the TOTY Awards, which stands for Toy of The Year Award.

Drawing from their inspiration (and few alternative titles), we have dubbed our awards the TAPintoTravels Toy of The Year Awards or TTTOTY.  Since that is a mouthful, we have furthered shortened it to the T3oTY Awards.  It sounds like a robot’s name from Star Wars, but with the seems appropriate.

We have already unveiled our picks in other categories earlier this week, including our favorite toys in the STEM and Display, Infant and Toddler, and a couple surprise categories.

There were two toys...let’s say machines that totally made us envious.  We had to have them.

The first was an easy one for us, because it comes in adult sizes!  And it is modeled on our old Big Wheel.

Sure, it wasn’t the only adult sized product at the show.  There was an awesome set of unbreakable glasses (which, ironically could come in handy for the next two products...and all of our honorable mentions too...anyhow).

Without further interruption, we offer you the High Roller Mark 2.0.  This will keep both your high schoolers and husband happy and tired out.

Our product tester weighed in at 260 pounds and at 6’2, you knew this machine would be put through the paces.  To make matters worse, his back was out.  His verdict?  Excellent.  It even realigned his back with its smart ergonomics and padded seat.

Now, we cannot say that it has miraculous properties.  We are an objective travel and news source.  Plus, objective testing would require hours of work and, quite possibly, the death of an intern or two.  Since raising the dead is not on the product information provided, we will just leave that claim untested.

Do not take our word for it, just watch the video and decide for yourself:

The High Roller is a low volume product sold only through direct sales.  To purchase, you will need to contact the company by email via this email link.

For our next featured product, we believe we have found a safer alternative to the hover board.  We have seen too many riders topple backwards or forwards on those devices to want to travel on them.  This product takes the same principal, but turns it on its side.  The result is a snowboard for the road.

The product just came out in December and your children may not be aware of it yet.  Imagine your street cred, when you bring home one of these before their friends show them.

The Neon Nitro 8 is a retail product and available in most stores.  We found one at Toys’R’Us.

Our logic on its safety profile is based on its slower speed, the body placement on the board, and the short learning curve.  Please watch the video and make that determination for yourself.  It is your kids head.  Oh!  And make them wear a helmet.  They need a brain case.  It keeps their nog’n from knocking.  You don’t want want them to end up as the subject of a serious Will Smith movie.

We do have a number of honorable mentions.  Unfortunately, these companies’ products have not become available yet.  We will follow-up with the manufacturers and provide any release dates on a new article.

Dongma carries a full like of motorized and licensed replicas of Mercedes, Land Rover, VW, and Ferrari vehicles.  These are close representations of the big vehicles that you would be proud to share your driveway.  Plus, they are a great value with the anticipated market price.  We are trying to convince the manufacturer to provide them to our area at least by direct shipping.

Starry Castle Inc has been in Europe for over a decade and they are debating about coming to our area.  They provide these beautiful and whimsical yard play sets.  They come only in wood and are responsibly sourced.

All parents that have the yard space, want to provide a play set for their kids.  The problem is what do you do with the plastic monstrosity when the kids grow up.  It isn’t on the recycle list.  Plastic does not age well in the sun either.

The wood products from Starry Castle offer a great alternative.  Plus, they look really classy.  They give the appearance of having been custom made.

We are trying to get this manufacturer to bring this product into our area from their Toronto distributor.  Again, we will keep you informed on its availability.  Sign up for our eNews for the fastest notifications.

In Cold Blood by Truman Capote

In Cold Blood by Truman Capote (Random House, 1965)

In Cold Blood is, quite simply, the grand-daddy of true crime writing, dubbed by Capote, himself, as the first non-fiction novel (although Norman Mailer argued the point when he published The Executioner's Song in 1979.) The conditions under which I read In Cold Blood for the first time were pretty weird, which was another ...
