The Valleyview Middle School Players proudly present,”The Wizard of Oz, the Musical.” The show will be held on May 18, 19, and 20th at Valleyview Middle School at 320 Diamond Spring Road in Denville, NJ at 7:30pm. The storyline of this timeless classic is near and dear to the hearts of children and adults alike. When a tornado tears through Kansas, young Dorothy Gale (Danielle DeLuca) and her dog, Toto, are magically whisked away in their farmhouse to the enchanting land of Oz. Upon arrival, Dorothy inadvertently incurs the wrath of the Wicked Witch of the West (Emma Crowningshield) when her house accidentally lands on the witch’s sister, killing her. Under the guidance of the Good Witch, Glinda (Katie Stone), Dorothy and Toto follow the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City to meet the Wizard (Kyle Schermerhorn), in the hopes that he can return them safely to Kansas. En route they encounter and befriend a Scarecrow (Gabrielle Goldstein) that needs a brain, a Tin Man (Jason Gabel) who lacks a heart, and a Lion (David Tavares) who seeks courage. Once they arrive in the Emerald City, the Wizard tasks the group with bringing him the broom of the Wicked Witch of the West in order to earn his help in returning Dorothy to Kansas.

The Wizard of Oz, the Musical, features the easily recognizable music and lyrics of Harold Arlen and E. Y. Harburg, with background music by Herberg Stothart. It is based on the novel by L. Frank Baum. The whimsical score and story captivate the hearts and minds of the audience, and celebrate the notion that there’s truly “no place like home.”

The conditions under which I read In Cold Blood for the first time were pretty weird, which was another ...
