DENVILLE, NJ – Three-seed Morris Knolls defeated 11-seed Montville in the quarterfinals of the North 1, Group 3, New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association tournament in Denville, April 14. The Golden Eagles took the first set 25-19 while Montville won the second 25-16. Morris Knolls outperformed Montville in the final set 25-13 to clinch the match.
Reagan Smith earned 12 kills, 17 digs and three service points for Morris Knolls. Stephanie Bloom contributed nine kills, 10 service points and six digs. Annie Nolan added 25 assists, 11 service points, four aces and five kills. Nicole Florey had 22 digs.
When asked what explains the Golden Eagles’s two-game-loss season, Head Coach Jolyn Veres attributed it to the team's sound fundamentals.
"They play sound volleyball. They gel well and pull for each other."
Although seven of her seniors will be graduating this year, Veres still has high expectations for next year's team and does not consider next year to be a rebuild year.
"We still have several people who have gotten into games, who have a lot of volleyball experience, who I'm expecting to step up and play a significant role on the team."
Morris Knolls (12-2) will face two-seed Tenafly (11-3) on the road in the semifinal round on Fri Apr 16, time yet to be determined.
