Dress for Success Northern NJ-10 Counties empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire, and development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. Since its founding, the organization has served over 22,000 women and counting, many challenged by under employment or unemployment, financial instability, and currently, the fallout created by the COVID-19 pandemic.

While the demand for services, virtual training, coaching, and support have grown at an unprecedented rate, the organization understands more than ever, the importance of having a voice and a vote. In recognition of the centennial of the 19th Amendment on August 18, 2020, the organization is hosting an essay contest that is open to residents of each of the 10 counties served by the organization--Morris, Sussex, Warren, Hunterdon, Union, Essex, Passaic, Bergen, Somerset and Middlesex. Submissions will be accepted from August 18 through Sept. 18, 2020 at 12 p.m.

Student entrants, those under 18 years of age, are asked to explain, in 700 words or less, their thoughts on whether voting is a right, privilege, or responsibility and why. Adult entrants, those 18 years and older, are asked to write in 1,000 words or less, the impact the 19th Amendment has had on our society, culture and democracy. All entries will be judged by members of the Dress for Success Northern NJ team and invited guests, including community leaders. Essays will be scored on quality of thought, clarity of expression and quality of writing.

Jersey Staffing is sponsoring the 1st place prize of $100 in each category. Morris County SHRM is sponsoring the 2nd place prize of $75. The Goodkind Group, LLC. is sponsoring the 3rd place prize of $50. Prizes will be awarded to the winners in each age group, and winners will be invited to read their essays for the organization’s anniversary on October 18, 2020.
