DENVILLE, NJ -- Hundreds of Denville residents came out to partake in Denville After Dark, an event organized by the Downtown Denville Business Improvement District (BID) to promote the local establishments on Broadway and surrounding streets.

“I’m excited,” said Scott Arielle, owner of the Denville Diner, located on Broadway.

“I think it’s great that the town is letting us do this. Hopefully, it’s a good turnout.”

The Denville Diner was one of many establishments to bring their businesses outdoors and onto Broadway to comply with social distancing guidelines. From clothing shops to antique stores, Denville residents were happy to just enjoy a local community event in their downtown area during such a long lockdown. There also was great enthusiasm to support local businesses that suffered economically from the pandemic.

“This is wonderful,” said Gene FitzPatrick, chair of Downtown Denville BID.

“Thank God we can hold this because the local businesses are struggling as of now. To get back to some sense of business, while running the risk of COVID-19 is great for Downtown.”

To mitigate the spread of the virus, hand sanitizer was readily available, and many visitors wore face coverings.

There were plenty of activities to keep people’s minds on fun and away from the threat of the virus. This included a classic car display on Second Avenue.

Local alternative/pop duo Dan Scott (vocals/drums) and Pete Pizza (vocals/guitarist) performed covers from Britney Spears to Bruce Springsteen.

“This is all awesome,” said Scott. “It's a great experience to be part of the Denville community, bring entertainment and enjoy everything about Downtown responsibly.”

St. Francis Residential Community served as the lead sponsor of Denville After Dark. Gateway to the Arts sponsored the live music entertainment.
