TRENTON, NJ -- Gov. Phil Murphy reported during his COVID-19 briefing on Wed Apr 21 that 6.2 million vaccine doses have been administered in the state and that nearly 2.6 million New Jerseyans are now fully vaccinated.

"We continue to make tremendous progress in getting our senior population vaccinated: 83% of those ages 65-79 have received at least one vaccine dose 76% of those 80+ have received at least one vaccine dose," Murphy said on Wednesday.   • 2,961 new positive PCR tests, which brings the state total to 865,733 total COVID-positive cases since the pandemic began
  • 653 new positive antigen tests (rapid tests), raising the total to 121,617 positive antigen tests
  • 2,114 patients in New Jersey hospitals with 455 patients in ICUs and 248 ventilators in use
  • 262 live patients discharged and 263 COVID-positive patients admitted
  • 46 new confirmed COVID-19 deaths, bringing the cumulative loss of life to 22,660 individuals

Education Update

"I know for sure, we are back in business in September, Monday through Friday, for educators, kids, everybody in as close to a normal school year as possible," the governor said. "As for what happens for the rest of this year, that's yet to be determined."

"The stress is overwhelming for everybody," he added, who said more than 81% of kids are in some form of in-person learning. "We've talked about learning loss, mental health impact, pure physical health concerns, etc."

The governor also said that as to what happens with graduation and prom, new guidance will be issued next week if the COVID numbers are "going in the right direction."
