DENVILLE, NJ -- Monday, Jan. 21, is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a national holiday on which we honor the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. It has also become known as a Day of Service in the United States.
TAPinto Denville is eager to hear about your efforts on this year's Day of Service. Is your company, organization, youth group, department, family, church or friends participating in a service project for the day? Send a photo (or two) and tell us about it. Email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Legislation signed in 1983 marked the birthday of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as a federal holiday. In 1994, Congress designated the Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday as a national day of service and charged the Corporation for National and Community Service with leading this effort, according to that organization's website. Each year, the MLK Day of Service is observed on the third Monday in January as a "day on, not a day off."
