DENVILLE, NJ -- During their March 3 meeting, the Denville Township Council unanimously voted to introduce the 2020 municipal budget.
This year, the 2020 budget amounts to $23,112,829.82, with the municipal tax rate being $0.4413. Last year's budget totaled $22,664,193.71, with a tax rate of $0.4358.
This year, the average Denville taxpayer will be paying $441.30 in municipal taxes for a house assessed $100,000; a $5.50 increase from last year. Taxpayers with houses assessed at $300,000 will be paying $1,323.90 in municipal taxes; a $16.50 increase from last year.
“The average household in Denville is valued at $406,000,” said Denville's Chief Financial Officer Michael J. Guarino.
“The tax increase impact of the municipal portion is $24.90 per household, with an overall tax increase of $189,083 or 1.4 percent. Remember budget increase and tax increase are two different things or values.”
The 2020 budget is set for adoption at the next council meeting on April 7.
In other news, the township council unanimously adopted an ordinance that will designate a three-way stop sign at the intersection of Station Road, Lackawanna Avenue and Parks Road.
Among resolutions, the township council approved a contract to Musco Sports Lighting, LLC, from Oskaloosa, Iowa, for Gardner Field sports complex lighting upgrades, in the amount of $39,850.
