DENVILLE, NJ -- During the September 3 meeting of the Denville Township Council, Business Administrator Steve Ward reported regarding the arrest of two employees of June Spa II, located on 3025 Route 10 East, for prostitution activities in August.

“On August 6, 2019, Health Officer Dr. Carol Perez issued a notice to June Spa II suspending their licenses to operate pending a hearing pursuant to the provisions of the Massage, Bodywork and Somatic Therapy Ordinance adopted by the mayor and township council in 2017,” said Administrator Ward.

“A hearing date was established for August 20, 2019. Days prior to the scheduled hearing, the attorney representing June Spa II wrote to the township attorney’s office and advised that their client did not want to challenge the license suspension and would not appear at the hearing. This was confirmed by a telephone conversation between the township attorney’s office and counsel for the defendant.”

Because of these offenses, the license of June Spa II was suspended for a year. This was the second license revoked, since the township suspended the practice of Asian Island, located on Bloomfield Avenue, due to multiple violations pertaining to the ordinance, for a period of six months in May of this year.

“The ordinance was intended to protect the health, safety and welfare of the residents and customers of these types of establishments as well as provide severe penalties for the conduct of illegal activities,” said Administrator Ward.

“Based upon our enforcement activity, I think overall the ordinance has proven to be a great success.”

In other news, among resolutions, the township council unanimously approved two shared service agreements for the service of a Class III special officer; the first one between the township and Morris Catholic High School, in the amount of $42,000 for a term of two years, and the second one between the township and the Celebrate the Children school, also in the amount of $42,000 for a term of two years.
