MONTVILLE, NJ -- Sustainable Jersey for Schools announced on September 15, 2020, that all 7 Montville Township Public Schools achieved the Bronze Certification for 2020.
Overall, 147 public schools in New Jersey achieved certification in 2020. This total marks a milestone for the most schools certified by Sustainable Jersey for Schools in an application cycle since the program began in 2015.
All 7 MTPS schools previously qualified for Bronze level, and have maintained that designation into the new academic year. In 2020, of the 147 schools that achieved certification, 80 schools did so for the first time and 67 schools, like the 7 MTPS schools, were recertified.
“I am beyond proud all seven of the Montville Township Public Schools. To achieve Sustainable Jersey for Schools Bronze Certification represents a dedicated commitment on the part of students, faculty, staff and administrators to the future of our community, state, nation and the world,” said Superintendent Dr. René Rovtar. “Sustainability is necessary for today and the future. The tools and practices initiated and taught within our schools has a positive and lasting impact.”
Sustainable Jersey for Schools is a program for pre-kindergarten through twelfth-grade public schools in New Jersey. It is voluntary, but achieving certification takes commitment and collaborative effort. Each school that is certified at the bronze level must submit documentation to show it has completed a balanced portfolio of the program’s sustainability actions, attaining a minimum of 150 points.
To review the list of schools that achieved certification in 2020 the public is encouraged to visit: 2020 Sustainable Jersey for Schools Certified Schools. Becoming certified with Sustainable Jersey for Schools is a significant achievement and these schools are leading the way to a more sustainable New Jersey, right when we need it the most.”
The 7 MTPS schools are: Montville Township High School, Robert R. Lazar Middle School, Cedar Hill Elementary School, Hilldale Elementary School, Valley View Elementary School, William Mason Elementary School and Woodmont Elementary School.
