ROXBURY, NJ – Roxbury resident Christopher Faschan, who blew up a homemade bomb in Sussex County earlier this year and was subsequently found to be in possession of “a cache of weapons,” was sentenced today to two years in prison and three years of supervised release, said U.S. Attorney Craig Carpentino in a statement.

Faschan, 31, of Port Morris, had pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge of unlawful possession of destructive devices and to a charge of being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition, authorities said.

The incident that led to Faschan’s arrest took place on Feb. 1. Authorities said Faschan detonated the device in the area of Lake Lackawanna in Byram after telling an acquaintance about his plan to do so.

“On Feb. 4, 2019, law enforcement agents interviewed Faschan, who said that he had ignited the bomb,” said Carpentino’s statement. “He described it as two pounds in weight and explained how he used and mixed Potassium Perchlorate, Aluminum Powder and Tannerite to make several bombs that were in his home.”

Armed with a search warrant, police entered Faschan’s home and “recovered a cache of weapons, ammunition, firearms, explosive devices and precursor materials,” Carpentino said.

Carpenito credited the Roxbury and Byram police as well as officers from U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the FBI, the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.
