DENVILLE, NJ -- The Denville Town Council welcomed one of the newest recruits to the Denville Police Department -- Patrolman Angel Tapia -- on Tue., Feb. 18.

“I am focused on having a positive impact on this community,” said Tapia.

Tapia originally grew up in Dover, having gone through the borough’s school system and graduating from Dover High School in 2014. He later attended the County College of Morris where he received his associate's degree, before going onto Rutgers University where he graduated in the spring of 2019, gaining his bachelor’s in psychology and criminal justice. He currently lives in Wharton with his wife Hannah.

“Officer Tapia became a police officer because he wanted to make a difference and be a positive influence within a community,” said Denville Police Chief Frank Perna.

“Officer Tapia believes that serving and helping others within a community is both humbling and life-fulfilling.”

Tapia was officially hired by the Denville Police Department in July 2019, with an annual salary of $45,675. He eventually graduated from the Morris County Police Academy in Morristown in November.

Tapia's fellow law enforcement officers and the members of the governing body gave the 23-year-old police recruit a warm reception.

“The Denville Town Council extends to Officer Tapia a warm and friendly welcome to the Denville Police Department family and wishes him all the best for a long and successful career,” said Council President Murphy.

“I am sure Officer Angle Tapia will be a fine officer and be a credit to our outstanding police department,” added Mayor Thomas Andes.

Tapia was joined by his wife Hannah, mother Jenny Siguenza, father Angel Sr., and mother-in-law Cindy Pyrzynski.

“I’m very honored by the ceremony and by all those in attendance to see me sworn in,” said Tapia.

“Denville is very community-oriented and believes in the same thing I believe, honesty and integrity. It also has a great police department. I'm very excited to start my career here.”
