DENVILLE, NJ – Morris Knolls football eked out a one-point victory against Mount Olive, 13-12, at home on Sat., Sept. 28.

Mount Olive got on the scoreboard first when Hunter Perez crossed the goal line with a one-yard run 4:16 minutes into the first quarter. Morris Knolls blocked the extra point attempt, keeping the score 6-0 through the remainder of the first half.

Morris Knolls’s first successful drive occurred during the third quarter, sparked by a 56-yard run by Sean Beller on the third play and a 10-yard carry by Scott Pirrello on the sixth play. Beller ran the ball into the endzone from the one-yard line with 4:22 remaining in the quarter, and Pat Sinegra nailed the point after to take the game lead, 7-6.

The Golden Eagles continued the momentum with their next and longest possession of the game. On their 14th play of the ninth drive of the game, Pirrello scored Morris Knolls’s second touchdown 4:14 minutes into the fourth quarter with a one-yard carry. Failing to secure the extra point, however, Knolls held its lead to 13-6.

Thirty-four seconds later, Mount Olive answered when Jordan Leonard scored the team’s second touchdown off a 66-yard pass, threatening to tie the game. The extra point attempt was no good, however, and Morris Knolls stymied Mount Olive’s offense for the rest of the quarter to end the game, 13-12.

Morris Knolls (2-1) next plays Delbarton (2-2) away on Sat., Oct. 5, at 2:30 p.m.
