DENVILLE, NJ – Tenth-seed Morris Knolls girls basketball defeated 23rd-seed Whippany Park, 56-29, in the preliminary round of the Morris County Tournament on Sat., Feb. 1, in Denville.

Morris Knolls dominated the game from start to finish with double-digit scoring in three of four quarters.

Emily Mitarotonda led the Lady Eagles with a game-high of 21 points. Nine other players contributed offensively: Brianna Mennella (11), Gabby Perna (6), Brielle Gavito (4), Maddie Knaack (4), Meghan Chegwidden (2), Kate Walsh (2), Camryn DeCando (2), Kira Mennella (2) and Molly Secallus (2).

Julia Swan scored 13 points for Whippany Park.

As for his team’s performance, Morris Knolls Head Coach Rob Moore stated, “The players took care of the business they had to do. It’s always a good thing when you get a win.”

Morris Knolls (8-8) advances to the first round of the tournament to face seven-seed Morristown-Beard (10-6) on Sat., Feb. 8, at 4 p.m. in Morristown.

In regular season play, the Lady Eagles will host Morristown High School (8-5) on Tue, Feb. 4, at 7 p.m.
