DENVILLE, NJ – Morris Knolls varsity ice hockey and girls basketball earned victories over the weekend. Boys basketball’s Morris County Tournament appearance ended in the preliminary round while the girls advanced to the first round of their county tournament. The wrestling team landed in 13th place with 58 points in its Morris County Tournament.

James Betz’s short-handed goal in the second period carried Morris Knolls ice hockey to a 1-0 win against Robbinsville-Allentown on Fri., Jan. 31, at Grundy Ice Arena in Bristol, Pennsylvania. Goalie Elliot Marken had 24 saves. Morris Knolls (11-5-3) won their third straight game, shutting out their opponents in all three. The Golden Eagles will face Montville (12-4-2) on Wed., Feb. 5, at 7:45 p.m. at the Mennen Sports Arena in Morristown.

Twenty-three-seed Morris Knolls boys basketball fell to 10th-seed Madison, 65-49, in the preliminary round of the Morris County Tournament on Sat., Feb. 1, in Madison. Stephen Carri led the Golden Eagles with 16 points. Morris Knolls (3-10) will resume regular season play when it faces Mount Olive (6-7) on the road on Tue., Feb. 4, at 7 p.m.

Morris Knolls wrestling finished their Morris County Tournament in 13th place in a field of 22. Jack Wemmlinger took third place in the 132-pound classification by a 4-0 decision over Robert Bohr of West Morris Central. The team (10-4) will continue its regular season play when it hosts Randolph (3-13) on Wed., Feb. 5, at 7 p.m.

Tenth-seed Morris Knolls girls basketball defeated 23rd-seed Whippany Park, 56-29, in the preliminary round of the Morris County Tournament on Sat., Feb. 1, in Denville. Lady Eagle Emily Mitarotonda outscored everyone with 21 points. Morris Knolls (8-8) advances to the first round of the tournament to face seven-seed Morristown-Beard (10-6) on Sat., Feb. 8, at 4 p.m. in Morristown. In regular season play, the Lady Eagles will host Morristown High School (8-5) on Tue, Feb. 4, at 7 p.m.
