FAIR LAWN, NJ – Nine-seed Morris Knolls girls soccer made a come-from-behind victory against eight-seed Fair Lawn in the first round of the North 1, Group 3 sectionals of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association tournament on Mon, Oct 28, in Fair Lawn.

Madison Palma scored the Golden Eagles’s first goal in the first period, assisted by Sarah Lutz. Jade Tabbs secured the tying goal (the defender’s first goal of her entire high school career!) in the waning minutes of the second period to force overtime play.

“What makes this team special is sometimes it’s the person that you least expect,” Morris Knolls Head Coach Stephan Zdanowicz shared with media. “Jade had a tremendous game. She was really composed and she was just on her game. So, it’s really cool that she was the one to put us in overtime.”

After both teams went scoreless in double-overtime, Morris Knolls nailed three of its four penalty kicks while Fair Lawn failed to sneak any pass goalkeeper Katelyn Walsh.

Walsh earned six saves for Knolls.

“Kate came out a lot and won a lot of balls that came over the top. She really helped out in the second half,” continued Zdanowicz.

Now on to the quarterfinals where Morris Knolls (6-6-6) will face top-seed Ramapo (15-1) in Ramapo on Thur, Oct 31, at 2 p.m.
