RANDOLPH, NJ – Top-seed Randolph defeated eighth-seed Morris Knolls, 41-24, in the quarterfinal round of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association Tournament, North Jersey, Section 1, Group 4, on Thur., March 5, at Randolph High School. Performing according to their seeding, the teams offered few surprises.
Randolph did most of its damage in the first quarter, outscoring Morris Knolls by nine points, 13-4. Randolph’s Angeleen Mulero dominated the first quarter with three three-pointers. Her teammate Olivia Turner added four more in the 13-point tally. Both ended the game as its high scorers with Mulero sinking 17 and Turner earning 10.
Brielle Gavito and Emily Mitarotonda scored eight points each for Morris Knolls. Gabby Perna and Maddie Knaack contributed three each, and Kate Walsh produced two.
As for the Golden Eagles’s game and season performances, Morris Knolls Head Coach Rob Moore commented, “All I ask is that they fight.” When asked whether he thought the players fought a good game against Randolph, he responded, “They absolutely did.”
Morris Knolls ends the season with 14 wins and 13 losses.
Randolph (23-3) advances to the semifinal round to face fourth-seed Morristown (15-12) at home on Sat., March 7, at 7 p.m.
