MORRISTOWN, NJ – After a slow start in the first period, top-seed Morris Knolls ice hockey found its pace and defeated ninth-seed Marlboro, 4-1, in the quarterfinal round of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association Tournament, Public A, on Mon., March 2, at the Mennen Sports Arena in Morristown.
Although Marlboro’s Dante Balsamo got on the scoreboard first with the only goal of the first period, assisted by Joe Solovey, the Golden Eagles ultimately found the back of the net twice in both the second and third periods. James Betz scored Morris Knolls’s first and last goals while Jake Quinn added one in the second period, and Gehrig Eckoff led off the third period with another. Jake DiLoreto, Dylan Idland, Andrew Ryan, J.D. Florio and Eckoff earned one assist apiece.
Morris Knolls goalie Elliot Marken had 16 saves while Dmitri Kapranov stopped 34 for Marlboro.
Morris Knolls (16-6-3) advances to the semifinal round to face fifth-seed Jackson Liberty (16-5-1) on Wed., March 4, at 4:30 p.m. at Mennen Sports Arena.
