NEW JERSEY -- Andrew Zwicker, Chair of the Science, Innovation & Technology Committee in the New Jersey State Assembly, appeared on State of Affairs with Steve Adubato to discuss ways his committee can foster innovation and job growth in the state.

Zwicker is also a physicist from Princeton University, and Head of Communications and Public Outreach for the university’s Plasma Physics Laboratory, and who is also the only physicist to ever serve in the state legislature.

Zwicker said that a background in science helps him fulfill his committee’s legislative mission. “We have to put into place policy proposals that will accelerate the job creation that will spur our entire economy,” he said.

The Science, Innovation & Technology Committee is just a year old and was created because these three factors are economic drivers for New Jersey, past, present, and with the right investment, also the future.

From the time of Edison, New Jersey has been a leader in innovation, and with each new invention also came jobs and industry. Zwicker said that he wants to ensure that the next student in a lab with a promising new idea has the structure and support to bring it to fruition.

“When we directly invest into these startup companies in partnership with the private sector, then it’s a win-win all around,” said Zwicker. “We accelerate the economic growth, we accelerate the number of jobs that are there.”
