NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - This Mother's Day, the Anshe Emeth Community Development Corporation, Inc. (AECDC) is asking you to Adopt-A-Mom with a monetary donation to be used to provide diapers, formula, clothing and equipment for low-income families.

As the only diaper bank in Central NJ, the non-profit AECDC is based in New Brunswick and has been helping people of all religious, races, and ethnicities in Middlesex County since 2000. Sadly, here are the shocking facts: There are over 12,000 young children in Middlesex County, NJ whose mothers, fathers, and grandparents do not have the income to buy enough disposable diapers to care for their babies. Parents must choose between food for their family or a box of diapers. Babies are left for an entire day in a single diaper, causing rashes, crying, and increased stress on already burdened parents.

Public assistance programs DO NOT cover the cost of disposable diapers. Cloth diapers are not a solution since public laundromats do not permit washing of cloth diapers. Child care providers require disposable diapers, and without them, parents cannot go to work or school.

At no cost to families, the AECDC provides diapers, formula, baby clothing, car seats, strollers and other basic goods needed by our low-income neighbors. With only one paid staff member, most of their work is done by volunteers and is partially supported by local and federal government, private corporations and foundations, and many individuals.

Please help honor all mothers by donating at www.adoptamom.net or visiting www.aecdc.org/donate for more information on their additional programs.

The Queen of the Big Time by Adriana Trigiani (Ballentine Books, 2005)

The Queen of the Big Time by Adriana Trigiani, a New York Times best selling author, was recommended to me by a young woman who actually came from the town of Roseto, Pennsylvania, the place where the novel is set. “The author did such a wonderful job of describing how the town actually is,” said the young lady.
