NORTH BRUNSWICK, NJ – According to the Middlesex County Fire Marshal’s Office, almost 1,000 firefighters from 157 fire companies in 12 counties fought the massive July 22 warehouse fire in North Brunswick.

According to a press release from the county, 157 companies sent 237 different trucks and 960 firefighters to fight the fire at a 1600 Livingston Avenue warehouse from July 22-27.

North Brunswick firefighters responded to an alarm activation at the DCH warehouse at 1:53 a.m. July 22 and found smoke coming from the eves of the roof on the front side of the building, according to the release.

When the fire chief drove to the back of the building, he saw “a heavy fire condition,” immediately calling in a second and third alarm.

Crews from 12 of the state’s 21 counties battled the blaze for five days and used 10, 12-hour operational periods, according to the release.

An estimated 7.2 million gallons of water from 11 sites around the township, including Farrington Lake, were used to subdue the fire during that time.

Thick smoke, visible for many miles, billowed from the 350,000 square-foot warehouse into the daylight hours of July 22, even creating a signature on weather radar of the plume.

Below is a list of responding units by county, according to the release.
