EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - Coming off of a 10-4 loss to Old Bridge, the Bears hosted the Edison Eagles. The Bears defeated the Eagles 10-2. Edison put up one run in the first inning but the Bears answered back quickly. East Brunswick put up at least one run every inning after the first inning resulting in a 10-2 victory.

 

Sophomore Joe Petrocelli got the start on the bump for EB and he totaled five strikeouts and only allowed one earned run. Senior Evan Dekhayser and Junior James Schuld pitched a combined two innings without allowing a run.

 

In the first inning Petrocelli had some control issues as he issued two quick walks, which eventually led to a RBI single. The Bears did not score in the bottom half of the inning but in the second inning EB quickly had runners in scoring position. With runners on first and third Senior Jay Marchese hit a double into left field to take a 2-1 lead. A few batters later Senior Nick Martino had an RBI single to extend their lead to 3-1.

Entering the bottom of the fourth inning the Bears had 4-2 lead over the Eagles and they were looking to build upon it. With one out Ryan Flynn hit a single into left field and the next batter Junior Michael Falco ripped a fly ball into right field for a triple making the score 5-2. The next batter was Junior Brad Edwards who hit a single allowing Falco to score. Another Junior Brandon Rosenthal came to the plate and hit another single to make the score 7-2.


East Brunswick tacked on a few more late game runs adding insult to injury, which eventually resulted in a 10-2 victory. The game was highlighted by good pitching and explosive hitting as they tallied 14 hits. Brandon Rosenthal, Ryan Flynn, Jay Marchese, Michael Falco, and Brad Edwards each collected multiple hits. Edwards, Marchase, and Falco each drove in two runs leading East Brunswick to victory.
