Baseball: Bears Chomp Panthers 5-1

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - The Bears took a late lead to earn a 5-1 win over the Perth Amboy Panthers. A strong defensive game paired with timely hitting allowed the Bears to get the victory.

Junior Michael Falco started on the bump for EB, pitching 2 ⅓ scoreless inning, tallying 3 strikeouts. Fellow Junior, Scott Dessel came into relieve Falco. Dessel pitched a solid 4 ⅔ innings allowing only one run.

Neither team scored for the first four innings and then the Bears struck first. In the fifth inning with runners on second and third, Senior Ryan Flynn knocked a line drive into left field, scoring one run and another scoring off of an error on the same play.

The Perth Amboy Panthers answered right back in the following inning. On a 2-0 count, the first batter of the inning knocked one over the center field fence for a solo home run. This hit was the lone run that the Panthers scored.

In the sixth inning, the Bears were leading 2-1. EB tacked on some insurance runs when Senior Nick Martino was hit by a pitch with bases loaded. The following batter Junior, David Bermudez was also hit by a pitch scoring another run. The next batter was Ryan Flynn and he reached on an error allowing another run to score. These late runs allowed the Bears to close out the game with 5-1 win over Perth Amboy.
