Baseball: Dominant Performance by Scott Dessel Leads to a 6-1 Victory Over Edison

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - After a dominant hitting performance in the day before, the Bears put together a great game on the mound thanks to Junior Scott Dessel. With the game tied up early the Bears were able to add on a few more runs to come away with a 6-1 win over the Edison Eagles.

Junior Scott Dessel showed an outstanding pitching display in the game against Edison. Dessel pitched the entire game only surrendering three hits and one run, while racking up five strikeouts. After the second inning, Dessel did not let a single batter get on base as he displayed his dominance.

The Bears scored first in the second inning off of an error to take an early 1-0 lead. However, the Eagles answered back quickly and tied the game. In the top of the fourth inning the Bears led off the inning with back-to-back singles from Juniors David Bermudez and Brandon Rosenthal. The next batter was Senior Jay Marchese who hit a sacrifice fly into left field to allow Bermudez to score making the score 2-1.

In the top of the sixth inning the Eagles had a difficult time throwing strikes as they issued five walks. These walks came back to haunt them as they allowed the Bears to score two more runs, taking a 4-1 lead. In the final inning David Bermudez led things off with a double to center field. A few batters later Jay Marchese had another opportunity for a RBI and he made the most of it. Marchese hit a ground ball into center field allowing Bermudez to score again. The next batter was Senior Matt Nelson who hit another RBI single making the score 6-1. These extra insurance runs for EB was more than enough for Dessel to hold onto the victory. The Bears are now 10-4 this season.
