EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - The Bears had three different pitchers throughout the game who only surrendered two hits and zero runs. The Bears collected seven hits as well as scoring seven runs resulting in a 7-0 victory against Blair Academy
Senior Evan Dekhayser got the start on the mound for the Bears. Dekhayser pitched four shutout innings with one strikeout and only allowed two hits. Sophomore Joe Petrocelli came into relieve Dekhayser and pitched two shutout innings and tallied one strikeout. For the final inning Junior James Schuld came into pitch and got three quick outs while recording a strikeout. East Brunswick had a great combined game on the mound as they only allowed five total baserunners the entire game.
The Bears struck early with two quick runs in the first inning. A leadoff hit by pitch followed by two singles by Junior David Bermudez and Senior Ryan Flynn gave EB bases loaded. Senior Tyler Burnham grounded into a double play but it allowed one run to score. A few batters later EB had runners on first and third. Falco stole second, which allowed Ryan Flynn to steal home on the same play giving the Bears an early 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the second inning Flynn came up to the plate with bases loaded and singled to center field allowing another run to score. With the bases still juiced David Bermudez hit a bases clearing double to jump out to a 6-0 lead. The Bears added another run in the fourth inning off a wild pitch, which brought the score to 7-0.
On the offensive side of things the Bears were led by Ryan Flynn and David Bermudez. Flynn went 3-for-4 with one RBI and scored 3 runs. Bermudez went a perfect 3-for-3 totaling three RBIs. The combination of dominant pitching and explosive hitting are making the Bears extremely difficult to beat. In East Brunswick’s last three games the Bears have outscored opponents 16-0.
