EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - The Bears walked it off in the bottom of the eighth inning in their first game of the NJSIAA State Tournament, against the Hillsborough Raiders to capture a 3-2 victory.

The Raiders struck first in the top of the second inning, after a couple of doubles and a single to take a 1-0 lead. Schuld was able to stop the bleeding and get out of the inning, only allowing one run. Schuld started the game on the mound, pitching five innings and recording five strikeouts. However, the Bears rallied back in the bottom half of the inning. With two outs, Senior Mike Falco hit a home run over the right field fence to tie the game at 1-1. The solo shot was followed by a walk and a single to put runners in scoring position. EB took advantage and David Bermudez hit double into center field to take a 2-1 lead.

The bats were quiet for both teams for a few innings but the Raiders tied the game back up in the sixth inning. In the sixth inning, Falco came in to pitch. Falco finished the game pitching three innings, allowing zero hits and tallying six strikeouts. With Falco shutting down the Raiders’ offense the Bears were able to put together a couple of hits in the eighth inning. James Schuld led off the inning with a single, which was followed by a sacrifice bunt by Brandon Rosenthal. Senior Jake Bauman hit a single to move the runner over to third base. The next batter, Diego Garcia hit the game winning single on a 1-2 count and moved the Bears onto the next round.
