Basketball: East Brunswick Beats J.P. Stevens by Double Digits

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - A big fourth quarter and late game free throws propelled the Bears to a win over the J.P. Stevens Hawks in a 49-39 victory.

 

To start off the game East Brunswick Junior, Joe Sampson hit two quick threes to go up 6-0. Later in the quarter, Bears Center, Dante Ralph had two quick buckets of his own to put the Bears up 10-2. With time winding down, EB guard, Jesse Perel hit a buzzer beating jumper, giving the Bears a 14-9 entering the second quarter.

 

J.P. Stevens had a good offensive second quarter outscoring East Brunswick 12-8 as they were chipping away at the Bears lead. With a little under a minute left, the scored was tied up at 19. Then Jesse Perel knocked down a three pointer to take a 22-19. Perel finished the game with 12 points. Going into halftime East Brunswick had a 22-21 lead over J.P. Stevens.

The third quarter was extremely low scoring for both teams. Both teams combined for only 10 third quarter points as the Bears outscored the Hawks 6-4. Dante Ralph added four of the six points and he finished with a total of 9 points.

 

Going into the final quarter the Bears had a three point lead over the Hawks. With a little under six minutes left in the game, J.P. Stevens took a 33-32 lead. A few plays later Bears Senior, Ezra Levitt hit a big three pointer to tie things up at 35. A late game three by EB Senior, Gil Wyman sealed the deal for the Bears as they took a 40-35 lead. Late game fouls by J.P. Stevens allowed East Brunswick to add on some more points. The Bears came out on top as they beat the Hawks 49-39.
