EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - The East Brunswick boys lacrosse team rallied late, but could not overtake its opponent on opening day on Wednesday.

Hopewell Valley held on for a 9-8 victory over the Bears, opening a 6-2 lead by halftime. East Brunswick outscored the Mercer County visitors, 4-1, in the final period to come within one goal.

Sean Kelliher finished with three goals and two assists for East Brunswick. Tim Gudzak scored two goals, and Thomas Bahmer, Jack Solimini and Michael Thomas each netted a single goal for the Bears. Timmy Smith chipped in with an assist for East Brunswick, which was outshot, 20-18.
