SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - A township woman is not only out of a car, but the $9,500 she paid for it, according to police.
Police said the resident purchased a 2009 Infiniti G37 on Craigslist for $9,500.
The seller delivered the vehicle to the resident and she went to the Motor Vehicle Commission Office on Route 130 July 9 to transfer the title and register it, police said.
However, on Monday, the records on the vehicle came back and it turned out to be reported stolen from Long Island on July 6, police said.
She told police that the seller provided her with a title for the vehicle when it was delivered.
It turned out to be a fake, police said.
Detectives are working with New York law enforcement to investigate the case.
"You have to be very careful with transactions (on Craigslist)," Capt. Jim Ryan said. "Try and make sure everything is documented and you know who you are dealing with. There is a lot of anonymity on there."
The woman, Ryan said, is also a victim and has been defrauded out of $9,500.
