Cranbury: State Police Fatally Shoot Man At Molly Pitcher Service Area On NJ Turnpike

CRANBURY, NJ – State Police shot and killed a man at the Molly Pitcher Service Area on the New Jersey Turnpike Thursday afternoon, officials said.

According to a press release from the state Attorney General’s Office, troopers were investigating around 2:45 p.m. Thursday, when a State Trooper shot a suspect.

The unidentified suspect was inside of a pickup truck when he was shot, and was pronounced dead at the scene, the release said.

Troopers on the scene were not injured during the incident, according to the release.

The service area was closed as the Attorney General’s Shooting Response Team investigated the incident.

Officials are not releasing the identity of the victim or any further information about the shooting at this time because of the ongoing investigation, the release said.

Under an Attorney General Directive, the Shooting Response Team, made up of deputy attorneys general, detectives of the Division of Criminal Justice, and detectives of the State Police Major Crime Unit, are dispatched to the scene to handle investigations of shootings involving state troopers or officers employed by county prosecutors as detectives/investigators or members of county emergency response teams and task forces, according to the release.
