EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - Week #3 of our CSA through Giamarese Farm. Here's what was revealed to me (sounds so profound!)
Sugar snap peas (I am going to put mine in some fried rice with carrots, onion, egg, and and comcrispy bacon.
Kale (I havee been using this in Nutribullet Smoothies with strawberries and bananas)
Lettuce, red and leafy
Zukes and yellow summer squash
A bit of broccoli
And in homage to Flip Wilson, some "Ruby Begonias"
I also got some Swiss chard, another delicious leafy veg that needs some preparation before serving. Get that Jersey sandy soil out!
I will make this great recipe for Swiss Chard with Parmesan Cheese to serve with panko-crusted sea scallops (pankoed by me) after being purchased at Baymen's Seafood in Tuckerton, NJ during our Pine Barrens Road Trip last week. I am taking a reader's suggestion to add a bit of heavy cream or half and half before serving to mellow the take out a bit and extend the flavor of the cheese. (I know, I know I should be finding those antioxidants delicious!)
Good luck with your vegetable mystery this week!
Summer is finally here and our local veggies are blooming in the Garden State. This column throws around a few ideas about how to use those farm favorites when they are at their freshest.
