MILLTOWN, NJ - They say every dog has his day, and for one Milltown black labrador yesterday was a very lucky one. A morning walk went south quickly when the dog got loose and ended up on Mill Pond. The dog fell through the unsteady ice and found itself trapped.

Milltown Police quickly responded to a call for help along with the Milltown Rescue Squad. Sargeant Brian Knelle and Ralph Jasionowski, the Milltown Department of Public Works Manager, went into the frozen water to retrieve the dog.

After being pulled from the chilling waters, the lab was placed in the back of the patrol car to warm up before going back home with its relieved owner.

As famous cartoonist, Charles Schultz once said, "Happiness is a warm puppy."
