EDISON, NJ - Republican presidential candidate, and billionaire businessman, Donald J. Trump is coming to Edison for a Hindu fundraiser on Saturday, officials said.

Trump is scheduled to speak during the Hindus United Against Terror Charity Concert at the NJ Convention and Expo Center on Sunfield Avenue on Saturday.

The event, according to organizers, is to benefit Kashmiri pundits, Hindu refugees and terror victims and is sponsored by the Republican Hindu Coalition.

A schedule of the concert said that event will start at 4 p.m. and include performances from Bollywood stars including Akhil, Mansavi, Malaika Arora, Prabhudeva, Ram Charan, Shreya Saran and Sophie.

Trump is scheduled to speak at the concert around 9 p.m. with music and dancing from 10 p.m., according to event organizers.

The candidate's official web page did not have the event listed as of Wednesday afternoon, but did list an event in Bangor, Maine, at 3 p.m.

"The first I heard of this was this morning,"

Township Councilman Joe Coyle, a Democrat,  said he did not know why the GOP nominee picked this community for an event.

"Edison is pretty much a Democratic stronghold," he said. "He can bring ringers in from across the state, but it doesn't give Edison a benefit."

He said holding the event at the large convention center "should work out fine" as far as having the infrastructure in place to handle a large-scale event. Coyle said that while there is a heavy Asian demographic in the township, the majority are loyal to the Democratic Party.

"It sounds more to me like its outside people coming in, creating the event," he said. "We're Democrats here (in Edison)."

Coyle said the police, and its Chief Thomas Bryan, have "what needs to be in place," to handle the crowds and other logistics of a Trump visit.

"It won't be the first big event down in Raritan Center," he said.

Township police, the Trump campaign, and the Republican Hindu Coalition did not reply to requests to confirm the event, or to comment on the visit.
