PLAINFIELD, NJ - Plainfielders are stepping up once again, this time for their four-legged neighbors from Texas affected by the catastrophic floods of Hurricane Harvey.

Plainfield Residents’ Association for Animal Rescue (PRAAR), in conjunction with the Plainfield Police Division, will be collecting donations, including clean blankets and towels, wet dog food, wet cat food, soft treats, collars and leashes, and kuranda beds for the animals being brought up from the shelters in Texas to New Jersey.

These dogs were transported from Texas shelters to make room for the ones displaced or separated from their owner because of Hurricane Harvey.  The effort is part of the Waystation program, founded by Heather Cammisa, and is being coordinated by St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center in Madison New Jersey.  The operation was organized by The Human Society of the United States, with airlift by Wings of Rescue.

The first flight of 78 dogs arrived in New Jersey on the evening of August 29th at the Morristown Municipal Airport.  The majority of dogs were taken to the St. Hubert’s Madison facility, which is acting as the hub for processing the animals that will eventually be sheltered at one of the sister shelters in New Jersey or the Northeast region.  St. Hubert’s has also been asked to accept cats from the Texas shelters and more flights are expected as the effort is ongoing.

In addition to assisting the new arrivals with donations, PRAAR is encouraging New Jersey animal lovers to consider adopting one of these new arrivals or any of the wonderful furry friends at the sister shelters in New Jersey:

The Plainfield Police Division is located at 200 East 4th Street, and donations for the animals can be dropped off, day or night.

For those wishing to make monetary donations to the victims of Hurricane Harvey, please see the Hurricane Harvey Relief Letter by the City of Plainfield.
