East Brunswick Board Of Education Announces New School Superintendent

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - At the start of last night's regularly scheduled East Brunswick Board of Education Meeting, the Board unanimously approved the nomination of a new superintendent for the East Brunswick School District, Dr. Victor Valeski, currently the Superintendent of the Swedesboro, NJ school district.  Upon completion of the vote, School Board President Dr. Brad Cohen took to the podium.  The following are Dr. Cohen's brief remarks introducing Dr. Valeski:

"It is a great honor to announce that after a long and extensive search, the East Brunswick Board of Education has selected a new Superintendent of Schools. Recognizing that this is the single most important role of the Board of Education, we began the school year embarking on a search process to find an educational leader for our schools. The school system here in East Brunswick has always been a source of pride. All eleven of our schools are designated Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence –the only school system in New Jersey that can make that statement.

Because of our high standards, the Board of Education sought to find an individual who embodies and understands that our success is no accident. Excellence is the result of hard work, grit, curiosity, optimism, self-control, and humility. The model for excellence MUST start from the top.

On behalf of the East Brunswick Board of Education, I am pleased to announce that Dr. Victor Valeski has accepted our offer to become the Superintendent of Schools effective July 1, 2014. Dr. Valeski has a most interesting background and found his way in to education from a rather non-traditional route. He is presently working as Superintendent of Schools for the Swedesboro-Woolwich School System in Gloucester County. He previously held positions as
Assistant Superintendent, Director of Support Services, and Director of Finance in the Caesar Rodney School District in Camden, Delaware.

He also founded Design4Learning-a firm specializing in the analysis and optimization of classroom and facility workspaces. Additionally, Dr. Valeski holds a position as Adjunct Professor at Wilmington University in Wilmington, Delaware.

Educationally, Dr. Valeski received his Bachelor of Science from Black Hills State University in South Dakota. He also holds a Masters in Business Administration from
Wilmington University in Delaware. Finally, he achieved his Doctorate in Education from the University of Delaware. Dr. Valeski has received numerous awards and distinc-
tions over the years. Most of these honors highlight his strengths in areas such as Finance, Technology, Curriculum, Facilities Management, and Human Resource Management.

More than any awards or accolades, the community will find that he is an affable, approachable, honest and humble educator. He is keenly aware of our accomplishments as a district, but intends to lead us forward in a most competitive environment. Both the Board of Education and Dr. Valeski are cognizant that the educational landscape is moving forward at a fast pace. To simply hold steady, means that we will surely fall behind as other districts pass us by. Keeping an eye to the future is the task for the next generation charged with leading our district. Dr. Valeski recognizes that one does not inherit the East Brunswick motto–Excellence in Academics, Athletics and the Arts–that must be earned.

Please join the East Brunswick Board of Education as we welcome Dr. Valeski to our community."

Upon the completion of Dr. Cohen's remarks, Dr. Valeski made some brief remarks, thanking the Board for the opportunity and their expression of confidence, and expressing how much he is looking forward to working with the East Brunswick School Community.
