NORTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - The East Brunswick High School boys bowling team won its first NJSIAA Tournament of Champions title in 20 years with a 3-1 victory over Manasquan Friday.

The Bears prevailed over Manasquan in a best-of-five Baker series. Junior Sam Bortnick rolled eight strikes in three games against Manasquan.

East Brunwick won the Group 4 title and defeated Sussex Tech, 3-0, in the first round of the T of C. Manasquan was the Group 1 champion. Tied at one game apiece, the Bears defeated Manasquan by taking the last two games by scores of 214-181 and 216-134.

Earlier this month, East Brunswick won the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament over South Brunswick.

Sophomore Daniel Lenk led East Brunswick in total pins this season with more than 11,000. James Reitano, Ethan Shamim and Jack Deruvo also surpassed 10,000 pins overall. Bortnick bowled a 300 games earlier in this championship campaign.
