EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - The beloved classic, The Sound of Music with music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and the book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse will come to life on the stage in the East Brunswick High School’s Joseph J. Sweeney Auditorium, 380 Cranbury Rd.  The play is based on the memoir of Maria von Trapp, The Story of the Trapp Family Singers.

Performances will be on Friday and Saturday, March 6th and 7th and also March 13th and 14th at 7 PM. There will also be a matinee performance on Sunday, March 8 at 3 PM.

The story is about a young postulant who when proven to be too high-spirited for the religious life, is dispatched to serve as governess for the seven children of a widowed Austrian Naval Captain. Her growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, gradually captures the heart of the stern Captain. All this is happening as Nazi Germany takes control of Austria which is on the verge of entering World War II. The music is wonderful and you will find yourself singing along.
