EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - Charges escalated from Shoplifting to Resisting Arrest when the East Brunswick Police Department investigated some merchandise thefts from the Toy-R-Us on Route 18 last night.
On December 12, 2017, at approximately 8:15 pm, Ptl. Patrick Lem was investigating a Shoplifting report at Toys “R” Us, 581 Hy 18 and was able to establish suspect and vehicle information of the individuals responsible for the theft and broadcast it to officers in the area.
Based on the suspect vehicle description, Ptl. Ryan Hensperger and Ptl. Matthew Kole observed the vehicle on the Cranbury Road overpass and initiated a motor vehicle stop into South River, says a report issued by the East Brunswick Police Department today.
Subsequent investigation revealed $1,486.34 worth of stolen merchandise from Toys “R” Us in the vehicle. The four occupants of the vehicle, Charles Hayler, 39, of Somerset, NJ, Joshaun Williams, 34, of Trenton, NJ, Mecheka Miranda, 27, of New Brunswick, NJ and Quadirah Banks, 32 of North Brunswick, NJ were charged with Shoplifting and Possession of Stolen Property.
Additionally, Williams was charged with Resisting Arrest, Hindering and Possession of Marijuana after he attempted to flee from officers during the investigation.
Banks was also charged with Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Xanax).
