EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - The East Brunswick football team is extremely young this year, and it may be a huge obstacle to overcome. The Bears only have six positions with returning players, while the rest of the positions are filled out by sophomores and juniors.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Bears still have their stellar dual threat quarterback, senior James Schuld, but he has lost two of his wide receivers from last year, which opens up a few spots at the wideout position. Senior Jack Solimini will look to make a big impact at wide receiver as well as senior Jacob Bauman and junior Drew Brenner.
In the backfield, the running game will consist of the Jackson brothers. Senior Zahir Jackson and junior Isaiah Jackson will have large shoes to fill after the graduation of star running back Kyle Wiggins. The offensive line consists of two sophomores, two juniors and one senior.
On the other side of the ball, the Bears defense starts with a strong front including seniors Ryan Crocco and Christian Tarnofsky, and juniors Aditya Singh and Tim Gudzak. The combination of strength and quickness on the defensive line should wreak havoc all year long. Along with the big front, the linebackers will include the Jackson brothers. Schuld will also be playing safety on defense. He will be accompanied by Solimini and Drew Brenner.
The Bears, who compete in the Greater Middlesex Conference Red Division, open the season against Sayreville Friday, Sept. 8 at home ay 7 p.m.
