ATLANTIC CITY, NJ - Mitchell Polito, the fourth seed among the state's 120-pound wrestlers, went all the way to the state final in his weight class before losing a tight match on Sunday.
Robert Howard of Bergen Catholic finally decisioned Polito, 3-2, in the championship round. Polito had upset the top-seeded wrestler in the 120-pound class, Joe Manchio of Seneca, 7-3, in the semifinal.
In the quarterfinal round, Polito had beaten Richie Koehler of Christian Brothers, 6-3. In earlier rounds, the East Brunswick senior had eliminated Kingsway's Cheney Kinner, 10-2, in a major decision, and, in the first round, Polito defeated Jordan Iannone of St. Joseph (Montvale), 18-3, in a technical fall.
Polito, who placed third in the 113-lb. class last year, finished his career at East Brunswick with a 103-9 record, including 63-2 over the last two seasons.
