EB Fire and EMS Assist Troopers After Two Trucks Overturn on Turnpike in New Brunswick

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — Two tractor-trailers overturned on the Turnpike last night in New Brunswick, sending one person to the hospital, according to New Jersey State Police.

The accident occurred at 9:07 p.m. March 27 on the northbound section of the highway, near mile marker 84.1, State Trooper Alejandro Goez told TAPinto New Brunswick.

How, exactly, the trucks toppled over remains under investigation, he said. No summonses have been issued at this time.

The occupants of one truck didn’t sustain any injuries. The driver of the other truck was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital with “minor injuries,” Goez said.

One of the trucks was carrying garbage. The other was hauling milk.

While state police didn’t have any information on the size of the spill, the incident shut down several lanes of traffic, Goez said.

“We cleaned it up pretty quickly,” he said.

Emergency responders were on scene for two hours. All lanes were reopened at 11:15 p.m. An outer lane was closed for just 10 minutes, Goez said.

Firefighters and emergency medical services from East Brunswick arrived on scene to assist state police.
