EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - The East Brunswick Police Department is looking for residents' help in identifying a man who tried to use a false identification badge to gain entrance to a home on Fresh Ponds Road.

According to a report issued today by the EBPD, on 07/14/17 at approximately 13:49 hours, residents at a Fresh Ponds Road home were approached by a male with a dark complexion, wearing a badge around his neck. The male held his badge up and advised the residents that he worked for the township's water department.

The residents told the male that the water was working fine. The male then attempted to guide the residents into the back yard and started walking towards the back door of the residence.

One of the residents got between the male and the house and pushed him away.  The male ran down the driveway towards Hardenburg Lane where a large, dark gray Toyota pickup truck with tinted windows stopped, picked him up, and drove off in the direction of the New Jersey Turnpike.

The residents were unable to see who was driving the truck or the license plate of the vehicle.

The Police Department reminds residents that all township Water Utility employees will be in a clearly-marked township vehicle and will always present a Township of East Brunswick identification card when asked.  If residents are are uncertain of a service person's identity, contact the EBPD.

If anyone has additional information regarding the suspects and suspect vehicle please contact Detective Bauer of the East Brunswick Detective Bureau at 732-390-6990.
