EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - Facebook is nobody's best friend.  Local teen Brian Jackson, 19, EBHS class of 2014 grad, found that out this week when he was arrested for two robberies in the same day.

On March 31, 2016 at approximately 10:38 PM East Brunswick Police Units responded to the Colchester Plaza, on the corner of Route 18 South and Tices Lane, on the report of a stolen purse and a male suspect fleeing the scene on foot.  The suspect was described as a short black male in his teens wearing dark clothing and last seen running behind the Kentucky Fried Chicken on Route 18.  A check of the area for the suspect yielded no result.

During the search and subsequent investigation it was learned that Brian Jackson, a nineteen (19) year old male from East Brunswick, was determined to be a person of interest.  Det. Dan Unkel and Det. Alex Danese of the East Brunswick Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit were able to locate Jackson several hours later, and, during the course of a motor vehicle stop, he was placed under arrest for active warrants and hindering apprehension.

Members of the Investigative Division continued to look into the theft from Colchester Plaza.  Through evidence gained during further investigation, it was determined that Brian Jackson was allegedly responsible for the theft from Colchester Plaza along with the March 11, 2016 robbery that had occurred at the Speedway Gas Station.

Following the Speedway robbery, "patrol units spoke to one of the gas station attendants who stated that the suspect came up from behind him as he exited the booth.  The suspect punched the attendant in the face, knocked him to the ground, and demanded the victim’s money.  The suspect then removed an undetermined amount of money from the attendant’s pockets and fled south on Route 18 on foot on the northbound side of the highway," said police in a report issued March 14.

Information relevant to these crimes was posted on Facebook on March 14th.

Warrants were approved for both crimes and bail was set in the amount of $70,000 for the Speedway robbery and 10,000 w/10% option for the Colchester Plaza theft.
