NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – A Franklin Township man was shot and killed early Saturday morning by township police officers after an exchange of gunfire on a New Brunswick street.
Diahlo Grant, 27, of the Somerset section of Franklin, was pronounced dead at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick at 3:17 a.m. after he was shot and wounded by police at 1:31 a.m.
Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey said officers from the Franklin Township Police Department pursued the man on Somerset Street before crossing the town border into New Brunswick where the shooting occurred.
One of the officers performed cardio-pulmonary resuscitation while waiting for paramedics to arrive.
Grant’s gun was recovered at the scene.
Grant was wanted for non-payment of child support in Middlesex County and for a probation violation of a drug charge filed in Somerset County.
The shooting is being investigated in accordance with the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General’s use of force guidelines.
