EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - The Friends of the Library is joining the East Brunswick Public Library in “Honoring Those Who Serve” with its Fall Meeting on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. The meeting will feature guest speaker Betsy Nagler, co-director of the documentary "Flat Daddy: Behind Every Soldier is a Family." Following a screening of the film, guests will be able to speak with Nagler.
The film focuses on how some military families have incorporated “Flat Daddies” and “Heroes on a Stick,” to track the travels of their love ones while they are deployed. Only 1 percent of Americans currently serve in the U.S. military, and their families have borne the disproportionate burden of more than a decade at war. Using these two-dimensional surrogates as a connecting thread, “Flat Daddy” follows four such families over the course of a year to explore the lasting impact of the war on those left behind.
