EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - East Brunswick can be proud of a student who saw problem and did what he could to address it.  In doing so, brought a deep sense of what Thanksgiving really means to those in need.  He did the work to shed some light on a problem.

When Luke Zorn, a fifth grader at Warnsdorfer Elementary School, earned his "Arrow of Light" as a Cub Scout in East Brunswick's Pack 132, he took it quite literally as a challenge to bring light to darkness.  Zorn, who has aunts, uncles, and cousins in Puerto Rico where there has been no power since Hurricane Maria hit 2 weeks ago, decided he wanted to do something about it.

Zorn set up collection boxes at local drop-off points in East Brunswick and Milltown so that residents could send "Lights for Puerto Rico."  He asked that those who wish to donate to bring flashlights, batteries, or candles to the donation areas.  After he completed the collection, he arranged transportation to the island territory.

"This hurricane has destroyed this beautiful island, and they desperately need our help," says Zorn, whose family vacations in Dorado, Puerto Rico.

Luke's mom Caribel Lopez-Zorn says, "He's on a mission with these boxes!"  She supported the placement of the flashlight/battery/candle box placement at 8 different locations in East Brunswick and Milltown.

As can be said of this Cub Scout's namesake, Luke Sywalker, "The force is strong with this one."

UPDATE FOR PROJECT LFPR - Lights For Puerto Rico! Luke is thrilled to report that five boxes were received and all the donations were distributed.

Says the East Brunswick fifth-grader: "In the attached pictures you will see some of the recipients and the smiles on their faces showing just how grateful they are. Especially around this time of year we need to feel blessed for everything we have.

One of the slides is of a young couple with their new baby girl born during Hurricane Maria. When the family returned home, they found themselves with no home or jobs.

The group picture are workers from our time share that still have no electricity and many needed to relocate as their roofs were blown off.

The last picture is a group of 5th graders. When they were able to return back to school each student received a package of candles or flashlights to take home since they’re also without electricity.

Thank you to all those who donated and kept Puerto Rico in your prayers."

Says Luke's mom Caribel Lopez-Zorn, "You should all feel proud that you made a difference in so many lives! If Luke could he would personally thank each and every one of you!  Wishing you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving Day! 🦃
