HELMETTA, NJ - The borough will be hold a disaster relief supply drive in conjunction with Mi-Box Moving and Mobile Storage to aide the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico on Saturday, September 30 and Sunday, October 1 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Helmetta Borough Hall. The Caribbean island was devastated by Hurricane Maria last week when the category four storm hit the island with 150 miler per hour winds and heavy rain. Much of Puerto Rico remains without power, impacting more than 3.4 million US citizens. Many people are without clean water to drink. Food and fuel supplies are running out as well.

The following supplies are being collected:

  • Bottled water
  • Paper towels
  • Feminine hygiend products
  • Baby food
  • Diapers
  • Baby wipes
  • Deodorant
  • Soap
  • Bleach
  • Pain relief products, including Tylenol and Advil
  • Garbage bags
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Canned food
  • Cereal
  • Dry foods
  • Adult diapers
  • Batteries
  • First aid kits

All of the donations collected will be transported to PACO in Jersey City. PACO is the Puertorriqueños Asociados for Community Organization, Inc. It is a non-profit, community-based organization in Hudson County. They will be handling the distribution of relief supplies to Puerto Rico.
